Vein Therapy

Written by

Leg veins, or spider veins, can be treated here at La Femme Rejuvenation Center, in Limassol. Below is some information about what spider veins are and how they can be treated.

Spider Veins

Spider veins can be a problem for many people. You are not alone in your desire to rid yourself of these unsightly veins. You may have had them for years or they may have just recently become a problem for you.

Spider veins – known in the medical world as telangiectasias or sunburst varicosities – are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. Although these super-fine veins are connected with the larger venous system, they are not an essential part of it.

A number of factors contribute to the development of spider veins, including heredity, pregnancy and other events that cause hormonal shifts, weight gain, occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing, and the use of certain medications.

Spider veins usually take on one of three basic patterns. They may appear in a true spider shape with a group of veins radiating outward from a dark central point; they may be arborizing and will resemble tiny branch-like shapes; or they may be simple linear and appear as thin separate lines. Linear spider veins are commonly seen on the inner knee, whereas the arborizing pattern often appears on the outer thigh in a sunburst or cartwheel distribution.

In our Medical Center we provide Laser Treatment for Veins. A laser is a highly focused beam of light. A doctor can use a laser to treat varicose veins. Laser heat damages a vein, which makes scar tissue form. This scar tissue closes the vein. A closed vein loses its source of blood and dies. Then the vein simply disappears. Simple laser vein treatment is done on the outside of your skin. It can treat spider veins and tiny varicose veins just under the skin's surface.

Usually, more than one laser session is needed.

Mesotherapy Body

Written by

What is Mesotherapy for the body?

Body mesotherapy  became popular in the mid-2000s. It was marketed as a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. It involves the use of a solution that is injected into areas affected by fat and cellulite.

Mesotherapy is a procedure used for weight loss and body sculpting to reduce, eliminate and contour specific undesired fat pockets. This method targets the receptors on fat cells that produce lipogenesis (fat production) and lipolysis (fat breakdown). Receptors that break down fat are known as beta receptors; those that create fat are alpha receptors. Alpha receptors are stimulated to produce fat when you ingest food containing carbohydrates, fat, amino acids, hormones or alcohol.

In both men and women, the ratio of alpha to beta receptors is generally 1:1 - above the waist. Below the waist, women have approximately 6 to 8 alpha receptors for every single beta receptor. This is the main reason women have trouble losing fat in their abdomens, buttocks and thighs: their bodies are designed to retain fat in those areas.

Based on individual requirements, the dermatologist selects a formula consisting of several medications that block alpha receptors and stimulate the beta receptors. Once injected into the skin, the formula slowly diffuses into the fat, and breaks it down. The number of weight loss and body sculpting treatments required varies from person to person.

Usually it can be from 4 up to 10 treatments once a week.

What areas can Mesotherapy target?

  • UPPER ARMS
  • “BRA BULGE”
  • ABDOMEN
  • “LOVE HANDLES”
  • THIGHS
  • “SADDLEBAGS”

Mole and papilloma removal

Written by

Moles and Papillomas

Moles are light to dark colored spots or raised areas of the skin. They are caused by a local accumulation of pigment cells in the skin and may occur anywhere on the body, and are different in shape, size and color. Papillomas [Human papilloma virus (HPV)] causes common warts, the small, white, beige or brown skin growths that can appear almost anywhere on the body and on the moist mucous membranes.

Remove them or not?

Removal of moles may be necessary when malignancy is suspected, then it is a medical procedure. Usually removal is not necessary, then it is a cosmetic procedure.

Methods to remove a Mole:

•             Shaving/ coagulation

•             Excision

The dermatologist looks at each case and decides which of these methods is the most suitable.

Shaving/coagulation

Shaving is applied to raised moles and is done under local anesthesia. During the treatment, the upper layer of the skin is shaved off by a very sharp knife. After this the wound is cauterized by heating (coagulation) and this creates a crust on the skin. This crust comes loose naturally over time.

Excision

Excision is used in flat moles and is also done under local anesthesia. During an excision, the entire mole and a bit of the surrounding skin are removed. The wound will heal within a few weeks.
